Yes, the Mac is capable of auto-mounting drives and volumes of both AFP and SMB (windows share) type. The preferred scheme for this is the 'Golden Triangle', as a client mac would be connected to both Microsoft's Active Directory and a Mac OS X Server running Open Directory.
